Voting on the POLL is great, however This project requires more than just stats, It requires detailed feedback from residents, for it to be of any benefit...

A Residents forum to suggest methods and ideas to dissuade speeding motorists that use Carolyn JACKSON Drive and MORELLA Ave as a drag strip. When enough data is collected it will be collated and presented to levels of government. Our families have the right to live in a safe environment and have quiet enjoyment of our properties...this includes the roads that impact on our homes our safety and security. PLEASE POST A COMMENT
Gday Matt
ReplyDeleteGreat to see other people have seen the same problems on CJD, Morella Ave and Halloran Drive. Whenever I drive up the street at 50KPH I end up with a string of cars tail gating me within a couple of blocks. I have been abused and hooted at by impatient speeding drivers on several occasions. I have nearly been wiped out turning right into our drive by idiots that are trying to pass me. These people are clearly breaking the law with impunity and will eventually cause a serious accident. CJD is now being used by numerous Jerra residents as a short cut to Queanbeyan rather than going out and along Lanyon Drive.
Traffic volumes as well as speeds would also appear to be much greater than was initially envisaged when the street was designed. The relatively sharp curves, restricted visibility and proximity to houses are clearly inappropriate for the speed and volumes of traffic using CJD, Morella Ave and Halloran Drive. Just compare it with the start of Edwin Land Parkway which has been designed for heavy volumes of traffic and speeds like those being encountered on CJD, MAve and HDr. Maybe this issue can be tackled using planning rules ?, ie the design of the street is completely inappropriate for the traffic volume and speed.
Solutions, some sort of chicane system in several places would help. Speed cameras also would be good, especially if you don't need to put up a warning sign which strikes me as ridiculous. A camera system would probably pay for itself quickly. Long term solutions probably include completion of Edwin Land Parkway as proposed through to Queanbeyan town centre, and closing off of CJD again possibly at the same time. With the Federal Govt throwing money around for infrastructure spending this would be a good time for the Queanbeyan City Council to get its act together and go after the $$ to do this. Mike Kelly has an office in town, its maybe time to pay him a visit too as well as the state MP who ever that is.
Happy to give a hand with this. Let me know
Cheers Andrew
Matt,
ReplyDeleteThis morning there was an accident involving a tradesman and a courier van, heading south on CJD at the chicane. The tradesman was turning in to the side road immediately after the chicane and the courier van collided with the back of the tradesman.
I believe the chicane encourages speeding more than disourages. People appear to feel like speeding up more after they have been through the chicane. It is hardly serving its purpose as a slow down point.
Any progress with council?
Ben
I live at 11CJD, on the downhill side. It's a nightmare turning right into my driveway in the afternoon, often being tailgated then if I have to wait for traffic, impatient drivers coming around the curve and slamming on brakes. And don't start me on the hoons. I've even been 'overtaken' when turning into CJD from Halloran by an idiot going around the wrong side of the roundabout.
ReplyDeleteI contacted the Council a long time ago, and was told there was no 'safety officer', but the position was being filled. I called again and left a message for someone in traffic engineering or some such, and never got a call back.
There is lots of kids, dogs, pedestrians etc on CJD - it's a residential street, and I fear that something awful will happen.
